Lisa just finished a 6 week trip all over Albania with her husband in Oct-Nov 2021. At the end she popped into a local hospital to see about bringing students and was welcome with open arms. This location is in a city of bikes 2 hrs north of the capitol. Hospital is doing 6-7 births a day so will only bring 6 students (2 per 8 hr shift round the clock) and 3 leaders. Leaders will check in and help students as needed but students will be left under care of local midwives there too as they will be involved in teaching over 100 midwives in the school there. They are proud of already doing skin to skin, moms stay with babies (Thank the Lord! ) and other things we fought for in other countries. Hospital is clean, quiet & friendly. We are not clear about advanced students getting catches so that is not promised on this 1st trip. Lodging is in a quiet hostel 2 min walk to hospital that we will mostly take over. Breakfast will be there too. Meals are very cheep there. Great food too all in walking distance.Very safe country also. (I have had NO concerns being here over last 6 weeks ). But trip is of course AT OWN RISK Covid shots are not required to get in country or in hospital. I mad that clear with director and they are fine with that. We will have 8– 8 hr shifts with a couple of tourist days in capitol at end. There is a Christian church that has ladies bible study on Wed and Sunday service that Lisa teaches at that can be walked to quite easy (along with the rest of the town, shops restaurants , museums etc ). Needed donations to bring for hospital are on this trip more medical in nature. Pulse oximeters esp for babies, doplers, instruments, any teaching materials for midwives, (English ok) text books, maniquins for training is #1 item needed as they train a lot of midwives. Any thing relating to NRP is needed too. Will be looking for Midwives to come help teach on this trip also. Fill out online app to be contacted about application.
